A New Beginning: Inside Our School’s First Grade 8 Program

This year marks an important milestone for our school as we welcome the first group of learners under the new Grade 8 program. The change introduces a four year academic journey that replaces the previous Form 1 entry level, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the school’s education system. For many students, joining Grade 8 has been both exciting and challenging.

As the first group to experience the new structure, these learners are not only adjusting to a different system but are also helping shape the future of the program for the classes that will follow. The transition from primary school to secondary school is always a significant step. Students are introduced to a wider range of subjects, new teachers, and greater academic expectations. With the introduction of Grade 8, learners are now beginning their secondary school journey in a program designed to guide them through four years of learning, development, and preparation for their final examinations. Teachers have also played an important role in helping students adapt to the new environment. Through guidance and support in the classroom, educators are working to ensure that learners adjust well to the academic demands and make the most of the opportunities provided by the program.

Despite the challenges that come with any new system, the Grade 8 students have shown enthusiasm and determination as they begin this new stage of their academic journey. Their experiences provide valuable insight into how the program is being received and how students are adapting to the changes. What Grade 8 Students Are Saying Below are comments from some of the students who are part of the first Grade 8 group in the school:

Student 1: “The program feels peaceful and not very difficult from the previous systems. We are just in intro to more subjects and learning new things. Since we never experienced the previous systems, it feels normal to us.”

Student 2: “It a little scary because we are the first group starting this program, which means we have to lead by example. We feel like we have to perform well and show good results. But at the same time it is exciting because we are the generation that will bring change.”

Student 3: “I enjoy the program because we are already learning ICT. In previous years students only started it in Form 4. This means opening opportunities for careers like becoming software engineers.”

As the first cohort of learners in the Grade 8 program, these students are setting the foundation for future classes. Their experiences will help shape how the program develops in the coming years. While the journey is still at its beginning, the enthusiasm and determination shown by these learners suggest a promising future. As the school community continues to support them, the Grade 8 students will undoubtedly grow academically and personally throughout the four year program.
