One of our talented Form 5 students, Malwande Dlamini, is making waves in the world of karate after achieving remarkable success at an international tournament recently held in Pretoria, South Africa.
Malwande competed against athletes from several countries, including South Africa, Mozambique, Turkey, and many others. Despite the tough competition, she displayed exceptional discipline, skill, and determination, earning first place in kata and proudly representing Eswatini on the international stage.
Her performance was part of a strong showing by the Japanese Karate Shoto (JKS) team, coached by Wandile Masina. The tournament featured some of the best karate athletes from across the region and beyond, making the achievement even more impressive.
Following her victory, Malwande was selected among only five karatekas who qualified for the upcoming international championships in Brazil. This opportunity marks a major milestone in her karate journey and reflects the growing talent emerging from Eswatini’s martial arts community.
Kata, one of the categories in which she excelled, is a disciplined sequence of karate techniques performed against imaginary opponents. The event tested athletes on precision, balance, power, and focus — qualities Malwande demonstrated throughout the competition.
Speaking about her preparation for future tournaments, Malwande explained that she continues to undergo intensive training sessions under her coach, Wandile Masina, through the Japanese Karate Shoto (JKS) programme. Her training focuses on improving technique, strength, fitness, and mental discipline ahead of the Brazil championships.
Her achievements have not only brought pride to her team and family, but also serve as an inspiration to fellow students who dream of excelling in sports while balancing their academic responsibilities.
The school community congratulates Malwande Dlamini on her outstanding success and wishes her all the best as she prepares to represent Eswatini in Brazil.
