Hillside High School hosted a successful team-building outing on 27 March 2026 at the scenic Vakasha Lodge. The event was organised to strengthen unity among teachers, celebrate the school’s impressive academic achievements from 2025, and promote the overall well-being of staff members.

The gathering brought together teachers and staff in a relaxed environment away from the classroom. One of the main purposes of the event was to celebrate the school’s excellent academic results from the previous year.

The Junior Certificate (JC) results recorded an outstanding pass rate of 97.8%, demonstrating the commitment and dedication of the teaching staff. Meanwhile, the Form 5 SGCSE results achieved a 42.2% credit pass rate, placing the school 47th in the country for 2026 an improvement from position 65 in 2025. This progress reflects the school’s continuous efforts to enhance academic performance and promote learner success.

Guest Speaker

A key highlight of the day was an engaging workshop led by motivational speaker Mfundo Simelane and his team. During the session, they addressed several important topics aimed at supporting teachers both professionally and personally. These included mental health awareness, teamwork, physical well-being, and financial awareness. The workshop encouraged teachers to reflect on the importance of maintaining balance in their professional and personal lives while working collaboratively to achieve the school’s goals.

To reinforce the messages shared during the workshop, several interactive team-building activities were organised. Teachers participated in fun and engaging games such as word-guessing challenges, colour-word puzzles, and group coordination exercises. One particularly memorable activity required participants to work together to pick up discs from the ground while maintaining a straight line connected by balloons. These activities not only created a lively and enjoyable atmosphere but also emphasized the importance of communication, cooperation, and trust among colleagues.

The event also included a recognition and awards segment where teachers were honoured for their outstanding achievements. Special recognition was given to educators who achieved 100% pass rates in both JC and EGCSE subjects, as well as those who demonstrated excellent overall academic performance. In addition, teachers who made notable contributions to the school’s sports programmes were also acknowledged and celebrated.

The Head Teacher, Mr Mwelase, took the opportunity to congratulate the staff for their dedication and consistent hard work. The peaceful setting allowed staff members to unwind, interact informally, and strengthen professional relationships outside the usual school environment.
